SAF Industries Prototype Type 015

Mecha design for 's Level 9000 Mecha Design Contest.

The Prototype Type 015 is a light infantry style Mecha designed to be highly adaptable to meet various situations and roles.  the Quick Attack Weapons and Tool System allows for multiple different weapons and tools to be quickly replaced and changed within a matter of minutes allowing for less down time if the situation changes and requires a different setup.   The Type 15 is powered by an industrial hydrogen fuel cell mounted deep within each units chest.  this fuel cell also has a hydrogen recycling center to help prolong it's range and run time. in a pinch the nuclear battery can power the mecha's basic functions to a limited degree. 

the Passenger Cockpit is mounted on the units back, the Backpack Safety Pod is designed with extra reinforcement against projectiles and explosions. it also has a quick burst Ion engine allowing the operator to eject from the unit if it becomes damaged in battle.  

The type 015s armor is a combination of steel and aluminum reinforcements and carbon nanofiber reinforced ceramic anti projectile plating.  the plating is strong and durable protecting key points on the mech, however multiple impacts weaken the plating as is the nature of this type of armor.   the machine also has an advanced system of sensors that can detect incoming projectiles, on board computers will re position the mecha in such a way to avoid or impact a less critical or well shielded area depending on the situation. this does not work well against laser weapons, though the ceramic plating is mildly heat resistant.  the Unit can also be fitted with a short range radar jammer which confuses self guided weaponry. 

the type 015 also has a set of omni directional roller wheels on the bases of it's feet that allow the unit to silently roll around on harder packed surfaces though this rolling speed is only about 10mph. the unit can walk, jog and run at speeds between 5 and 45mph.
